Hohem iSteady M7 Smartphone Gimbal User Manual

Initial Setup

Charging

  1. Charge the gimbal using the included USB-C cable (adapter not included)
  2. Charging time: 3 hours
  3. Check battery level on the display – all bars indicate full charge
  4. Power bank feature: When powered off, the gimbal can charge your smartphone using provided cables

Basic Setup

  1. Install the Hohem Joy app on your smartphone
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your phone
  3. Pair the gimbal through the Hohem Joy app
  4. Update firmware if prompted

Balancing the Gimbal

Horizontal Mode

  1. Unlock all three motors:
    • Pan motor lock
    • Tilt motor lock
    • Roll motor lock
  2. Rotate the gimbal with AI tracking sensor at top
  3. Balance the right arm:
    • Open clamp if right side drops
    • Move arm right until level
    • Close clamp when balanced
  4. Center the phone clamp until perfectly level

Vertical Mode

  • Follow same steps but keep phone balanced centrally in phone clamp
  • For quick vertical shots: rotate gimbal sideways right into flashlight position

AI Tracking Sensor

Setup

  1. Remove by pressing both side locks
  2. Install in either direction (rear or selfie mode)
  3. Power button on side
  4. Recognition distance: 0.5-5.5 meters

Gesture Controls

  • OK sign: Start tracking (green light)
  • Palm sign: Stop tracking (red light)
  • L sign with both hands: Reframe shot
  • Shutter control gesture: Start/stop recording

Remote Preview

  1. Detach remote
  2. Swipe right for 2MP camera preview
  3. Double tap or swipe to select tracking object
  4. Side button functions:
    • Single press: Pause tracking (yellow box)
    • Triple tap screen: Stop tracking (red icon)
    • Long press: Calibrate tracking
    • Alternative you can draw a box with your finger, it turns red. Then pull the trigger to track. This with keep the object where you drew in the frame.

  2. Pan Tilt Follow Mode: Follows side and up/down movement
  3. POV Mode: All motors unlocked

1. Getting Started

Charging the Gimbal

  1. Connect the gimbal to a power source using the included USB-C cable.
  2. Use a USB adapter (not included) to plug it into an outlet.
  3. Charging takes approximately 3 hours.
  4. When fully charged, all battery bars will display on the screen.
  5. The gimbal can also act as a power bank:
    • Connect your phone using the appropriate cable.
    • Press the power button once to enable charging.

Installing the Hohem Joy App

  1. Download and install the Hohem Joy app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Unlocking the Motors

  1. Unlock each motor:
    • Pan Motor – Unlock the pan motor by rotating the lock switch.
    • Tilt Motor – Unlock the tilt motor by rotating its lock.
    • Roll Motor – Unlock the roll motor by releasing the roll lock.
  2. Ensure the pan motor faces backward and the tilt motor points to the right.

2. Balancing the Gimbal

Horizontal Filming

  1. Place your smartphone in the phone clamp.
  2. Adjust the clamp so the phone is horizontally level.
  3. If one side dips, loosen the clamp and slide the arm until balanced.
  4. Tighten the clamp to secure the phone.

Vertical Filming

  1. Place your smartphone centrally in the clamp.
  2. Follow the same balancing steps as horizontal filming.

3. Turning On and Off

  1. Long press the power button to turn on the gimbal.
  2. To enter standby mode, press the power button twice.
  3. Tap the touchscreen to wake the gimbal from standby mode.

4. Pairing the Gimbal

Bluetooth Connection

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  2. Open the Hohem Joy app.
  3. Follow the pairing instructions within the app.

Firmware Updates

  1. If a firmware update prompt appears, accept it.
  2. Allow the gimbal to complete the update to ensure optimal performance.

5. AI Tracking and Fill Light

  1. Remove the AI tracking sensor by pressing the side locks.
  2. Install the sensor to face forward or backward.
  3. Turn on the sensor by pressing the power button.
  4. Enable tracking:
    • Show an “OK” sign to activate (green light will flash).
    • Show a palm sign to stop tracking (red light).
  5. Adjust framing by showing an “L” sign with both hands.
  6. Start/stop recording with the shutter gesture.

6. Gimbal Modes

  • Pan Follow Mode – The gimbal follows horizontal movements only.
  • Pan Tilt Follow Mode – The gimbal follows both horizontal and vertical movements.
  • POV Mode – All motors are unlocked, allowing full range of motion.
  • Lock Mode – The gimbal locks the frame regardless of movement.

7. Remote Control Functions

  • Joystick – Move the joystick up/down or side to side to adjust the gimbal.

  • Auto Calibration – Press the mode button five times to initiate auto-calibration on a flat surface.

10. Motion Time Lapse and Waypoints

  1. Position the camera at point A and press the A button.
