Initial Setup
Charging
- Charge the gimbal using the included USB-C cable (adapter not included)
- Charging time: 3 hours
- Check battery level on the display – all bars indicate full charge
- Power bank feature: When powered off, the gimbal can charge your smartphone using provided cables
Basic Setup
- Install the Hohem Joy app on your smartphone
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone
- Pair the gimbal through the Hohem Joy app
- Update firmware if prompted
Balancing the Gimbal
Horizontal Mode
- Unlock all three motors:
- Pan motor lock
- Tilt motor lock
- Roll motor lock
- Rotate the gimbal with AI tracking sensor at top
- Balance the right arm:
- Open clamp if right side drops
- Move arm right until level
- Close clamp when balanced
- Center the phone clamp until perfectly level
Vertical Mode
- Follow same steps but keep phone balanced centrally in phone clamp
- For quick vertical shots: rotate gimbal sideways right into flashlight position
AI Tracking Sensor
Setup
- Remove by pressing both side locks
- Install in either direction (rear or selfie mode)
- Power button on side
- Recognition distance: 0.5-5.5 meters
Gesture Controls
- OK sign: Start tracking (green light)
- Palm sign: Stop tracking (red light)
- L sign with both hands: Reframe shot
- Shutter control gesture: Start/stop recording
Remote Preview
- Detach remote
- Swipe right for 2MP camera preview
- Double tap or swipe to select tracking object
- Side button functions:
- Single press: Pause tracking (yellow box)
- Triple tap screen: Stop tracking (red icon)
- Long press: Calibrate tracking
- Alternative you can draw a box with your finger, it turns red. Then pull the trigger to track. This with keep the object where you drew in the frame.

1. Getting Started
Charging the Gimbal
- Connect the gimbal to a power source using the included USB-C cable.
- Use a USB adapter (not included) to plug it into an outlet.
- Charging takes approximately 3 hours.
- When fully charged, all battery bars will display on the screen.
- The gimbal can also act as a power bank:
- Connect your phone using the appropriate cable.
- Press the power button once to enable charging.
Installing the Hohem Joy App
- Download and install the Hohem Joy app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
Unlocking the Motors
- Unlock each motor:
- Pan Motor – Unlock the pan motor by rotating the lock switch.
- Tilt Motor – Unlock the tilt motor by rotating its lock.
- Roll Motor – Unlock the roll motor by releasing the roll lock.
- Ensure the pan motor faces backward and the tilt motor points to the right.
2. Balancing the Gimbal
Horizontal Filming
- Place your smartphone in the phone clamp.
- Adjust the clamp so the phone is horizontally level.
- If one side dips, loosen the clamp and slide the arm until balanced.
- Tighten the clamp to secure the phone.
Vertical Filming
- Place your smartphone centrally in the clamp.
- Follow the same balancing steps as horizontal filming.
3. Turning On and Off
- Long press the power button to turn on the gimbal.
- To enter standby mode, press the power button twice.
- Tap the touchscreen to wake the gimbal from standby mode.
4. Pairing the Gimbal
Bluetooth Connection
- Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- Open the Hohem Joy app.
- Follow the pairing instructions within the app.
Firmware Updates
- If a firmware update prompt appears, accept it.
- Allow the gimbal to complete the update to ensure optimal performance.
5. AI Tracking and Fill Light
- Remove the AI tracking sensor by pressing the side locks.
- Install the sensor to face forward or backward.
- Turn on the sensor by pressing the power button.
- Enable tracking:
- Show an “OK” sign to activate (green light will flash).
- Show a palm sign to stop tracking (red light).
- Adjust framing by showing an “L” sign with both hands.
- Start/stop recording with the shutter gesture.
6. Gimbal Modes
- Pan Follow Mode – The gimbal follows horizontal movements only.
